追溯该系列的起源，需归功于假面骑士的成功。制作初代假面骑士时，制片人平山亨发现观众尤其热衷双骑士联手对抗修卡的剧情，此类合作桥段收视表现突出。这一观察催生了突破性的构想——让多位英雄自故事开端便协同登场！此构思打破了当时单一英雄主导的叙事传统。1975年，首部战队作品「秘密战队五连者」由此诞生。
