Originally established in 2021 by the European Commission to offer cost-free open access publishing for EU research program recipients[3], ORE was conceived to enhance transparency, availability, and longevity of publicly supported research through novel publishing mechanisms. Throughout its five-year operation, the platform has demonstrated consistent expansion and adoption within research circles, featuring over 1,200 publications and engagement from more than 6,300 contributors representing 3,000+ global institutions.
